Adv. Dr. Jacqueline Tanti-Dougall was guest speaker at a First International Conference on ‘The New Package Travel Directive’ held in October, 10 -11, 2016 at the Estoril Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotel Studies in Lisbon, Portugal. She delivered a presentation on ‘The Package Travel Insolvency Fund Regulations – the Maltese Perspective’, delving into The Malta Travel and Tourism Services Act and the enactment of the Package Travel Insolvency Fund Regulations.
Other leading experts on the subject matter from different countries participated at the successful International Conference with speakers coming from Italy, Spain, Germany, Malta. United Kingdom, France, Ireland, Austria, Uruguay, Argentine, the United States of America, Brazil and Portugal to mention but a few.
The subjects addressed included international liability for tourism service providers, travellers and consumer right to information, legislative shortcomings in the new directive, withdrawal from contract before the package, package travel and linked travel arrangements, implementation of the travel directive in various jurisdictions such as Malta, Germany and Brazil, protection of travellers in the digital age as well as harmonisation.
