MALTA NEWS: Privatisation of Yacht Marina Announced

Friday, 09 September 2011 20:46

Government has just announced that a call for tenders will be issued in the coming months for the privatisation of the yacht marina located at Ta' Xbiex strongly advocating its belief that private investors could certainly operate the yacht marina to accommodate the current yachting market.

Malta has experienced a substantial increase in the registration of pleasure yachts under the Maltese flag and indeed, a total of 378 new registrations were made over the past three years creating further pressure on the local authorities to increase the berthing capacities for yachts within the Maltese islands. In fact, some 176 new berths were introduced over the past twelve months whilst more than 300 new berths are scheduled over the next twelve months.

This means that there exists enough confidence in the steady increase experienced on the local market in the demand for berths.

Grand Harbour Marina, located in Vittoriosa, called so by the Knights of the Order of St. John after being victorious following the turkish invasion in 1565, is indeed a privately owned marina of international repute which could also accommodate super yachts up till 130 metres.

Tanti-Dougall & Associates Advocates have acted as legal advisors for Grand Harbour Marina since its inception, as early as from tendering stage therefor.
