Tuesday, 28 December 2010 17:59

On December 14th, 2010, the Maltese and Irish Patents Offices have adopted a harmonised list of goods and services for trademarks purposes, a step that is deemed significant for the WIPO-supported ‘EuroClass Co-operation Project’ under which project a list of more than 90,000 terms so identified in the English language as drawn up by the UKIPO and OHIM will eventually have a translated version thereof in the twenty one other languages practised in the EU Member States.

The aim is to arrive at a harmonised list of terms usually referred to cross nationally within the European scenario to play down on misinterpretations and/or divergencies of terms utilised in the IP's very wide field of practice. As a result, the harmonised list is now applicable to the Malta.

The translations of the relative list into the other languages are in the process of being vetted by experts within the respective IP national offices.
