TAX LAW NEWS: Tax Treaty between Malta and Moldavia

Sunday, 25 May 2014 14:03

On April 10, 2014, Malta and Moldavia have entered an Income Tax Treaty and an accompanying Protocol, providing for withholding tax at source.

The treaty contemplates inter alia, a 5 % rate applicable where dividends would be paid by a resident of Moldavia to the beneficial owner thereof, being a resident of Malta, and a 5 % rate on interest as well as royalties, the latter not including income derived from the use or the right of use of industrial, commercial and/or scientific equipment.

Malta enjoys more than 70 double tax treaties which are deemed advantageous to whosoever would be seeking to establish a business in Malta or to operate through Malta.
